Obama Has Vacationed More Than Any Other President– Here’s the Unbelievable Price Tag
$44 million—that’s how much taxpayer money the Obamas have spent on travel and vacations. In fact, according to the National Taxpayer Union Foundation (NTFU), Obama has spent more time traveling than any other past president.
“The most internationally well-traveled President, through five years, is also flying the most expensive-to-operate Air Force One to date,” NTUF wrote.
After five years in office, president Obama has taken 31 trips, totaling 119 days on vacation.
Although, George W Bush isn’t far behind, at this point in his presidency he had taken 28 trips for 116 days.
At the same point in his presidency, Ronald Reagan had only taken 14 trips for 73 days.
According to Judicial Watch, the Obamas have spent $44,351,777.12 on travel expenses. But that cost could be higher, since the White House is not subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.
“Here we have a president that gets on the budget line by line, but this apparently doesn’t apply to his travel,” president of Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton, told The Daily Caller.
Fitton said that in a time when the nation is facing financial hardship the first family should set a better example.
“We’ve got this financial crisis here in Washington and the president and his family need to be more sensitive as to the cost concerned with his travel,” Fitton said. “We are especially concerned about the excessive luxury travel, such as his trip to Hawaii.”
