Brooke lives in a beautiful American home that has been around since the early 1800's — and around back, she is owner of a gorgeous red barn.
Brooke's barn dates back to the late 1700's. As she writes on her blog, "A barn and a tire swing are the epitome of country living, and ever since we moved into our house, I have wanted to enhance the Americana feel to the outside of our barn. I wanted it to scream American country living."

So Brooke got to work on an incredible patriotic DIY addition to the outside of her barn. She wanted "a great big American flag for this small town USA."

After the measurements of the flag were taped out, she set to work painting the white flag stripes. The red stripes would simply be supplied by the barn's original color.

For the white stripes, Brooke dry-brushed the paint on; this would give her flag that old-timey, rustic feel. For the blue, she used a bright shade that would show up nicely on top of the barn's red.

When it was time for the stars, Brooke made herself a template and cut out each one at a size of 7 inches.

Brooke writes, "I tacked the strips in place on the barn, one at a time, and painted on the stars like you would a stencil."

Brooke's barn flag was really starting to take shape!

When she finished painting the stars, Brooke took a step back to admire her work. "I put my hand over my heart and said the Pledge."
