The Los Angeles Police Department made a nauseating bust earlier this week when they confiscated $700,000 worth of counterfeit makeup that tested positive for contamination from human waste, police said.
The bust targeted 21 businesses in L.A.'s Fashion District, seizing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of makeup, some of it tainted by poop, according to police. NBC L.A. reported that six people were arrested on suspicion of trademark violations, and 15 businesses in the Santee Alley shopping area were issued cease and desist orders.
"Major Task Force hits 21 locations in the @LAFashionDist and nets $700,000 in Counterfeit cosmetics found to contain bacteria and human waste," wrote LAPD Capt. Marc Reina on Twitter.
Pictures of goods seized included imitations of popular products from trendy brands such as Naked eyeshadow palettes by Urban Decay, which retail for about $54 at reputable vendors.
Other products seized included knockoff Kylie Cosmetics lip kits from Kylie Jenner's makeup line, prompting a response to the story from her sister, Kim Kardashian.
"Counterfeit Kylie lip kits seized in LAPD raid test positive for feces," she wrote on Twitter. "SO GROSS! Never buy counterfeit products!"
"The best price," Reina said in something of an understatement, "is not always the best deal!"
