Jim Carrey goes after Trump policy separating immigrant parents, children at border

Actor Jim Carrey in a new painting attacked a Trump administration policy that has resulted in the separation of immigrant parents and children at the U.S. border.
The painting depicts Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents separating a mother and her child. White House chief of staff John Kelly, who has defended the policy, also appears to be in the background.
“1500 innocent children ripped from their mothers’ arms at our border. Lost in Trump’s 'system'. Give us your tired, your poor, your huddle masses yearning to breathe free -- and we will torture them for wanting a better life,” Carrey tweeted.

The actor has been highly critical of the Trump administration, releasing a series of paintings knocking officials over their comments and policies.
Carrey in his latest work is referring to federal officials’ revelation last month that they had lost track of nearly 1,500 migrant children who had been placed with adult sponsors.
The Trump administration has also been criticized for an immigration crackdown that has resulted in adults being separated from children when families seeking asylum arrive at the U.S. border.
Trump blamed Democrats for the “horrible law" in a tweet Saturday, calling on them to take action to change it.

Kelly defended the policy in an interview earlier this month.
"The children will be taken care of — put into foster care or whatever,” he told NPR. "But the big point is they elected to come illegally into the United States and this is a technique that no one hopes will be used extensively or for very long.”
