A St. Louis man was charged with first-degree murder Wednesday after police said he shot and killed a man shortly after learning the man allegedly molested a 3-year-old relative of the shooter.
Anton Lee Williams, 34, was charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm for the May 31 shooting death of a 55-year-old Derrick E. Williams, who was a close family friend.
Police said they found the man dead last Thursday morning in a home on the 3600 block of Nebraska. During the investigation, a family services investigator told police Williams was made aware on May 30 of the sexual assault allegedly committed against Anton Lee Williams' relative while the man was living with Williams' family. The family services investigator told police Williams was "distraught and angry" when he learned the information.
Police said phone records showed Williams made two calls to the shooting victim after 10 p.m. on May 30. Police also said a man with similar characteristics as Anton Lee Williams was spotted in security video near the scene of the shooting at around the time of the shooting, which was about three blocks from Anton Lee Williams' house.
When police executed a search warrant of Williams' home, they found a shotgun hidden in the rafters. Police said Anton Lee William's child pointed at the gun they found and said, "That's my daddy's shotgun."
Anton Lee Williams was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $800,000, cash-only.
