Disgusted families have today taken to social media to complain that their Christmas was ruined because their supermarket turkeys were inedible.
Shoppers complained that birds purchased from Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer, Asda, Aldi and Lidl were rotten.
Some even posted pictures of their ruined 'green', 'rancid' and 'stinking' meals.

Kelly, who purchased an essential Waitrose butter basted turkey crown for Christmas Day, said her bird was inedible when defrosted.
She said: 'Wasn't able to eat it unfortunately - very much off! I think it hadn’t been packaged correctly - was all dry and bad.'
Kelly has contacted the supermarket who agreed to look into the situation.

Leigh Tredget said she discovered her turkey was 'rancid' after opening the packaging on Tuesday morning - despite it having a 'best before' date of December 26.
She said: '@AldiUK opened my Christmas turkey to cook this morning and the thing is rancid.
'Best before date is 26 December and it had been in the fridge since buying it Friday.

Allison Goldfinch bought a free range turkey from Lidl and refrigerated it in preparation for Christmas Day.
But when she unwrapped the bird she found it was 'extremely smelly'.
She said: 'I bought a free range turkey from Lidl which was extremely smelly despite best before date of 26 December and being refrigerated since purchase. 
'I couldn’t serve it and had 10 for Xmas dinner. Got very stressed.' 
Another disappointed shopper, Natz Smith, said she had a similar experience with a turkey purchased from Tesco.

The supermarket responded to her complaint and suggested she return to the store she bought it from with her receipt.
It said: 'I’m really sorry you’re unhappy with the turkey you bought from us.

'Please return with your receipt to the store you bought it from and the Store Manager will be happy to help.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: 'We apologise to the handful of customers whose Christmas orders have not met our usual high standards, and are investigating these cases.'

An Aldi spokesperson said: 'We are sorry that, in a small number of instances, we did not meet our usual high-quality standards. 
'Customers can return any product that they are not satisfied with to their nearest store for a full refund.'
